The Annual General Meeting of the shareholders of BA is on Tuesday 17th July 2007. This year ABAP would like to have an even bigger input with our Block Vote.
Last year questions were raised about the effect of the Climate Change Lobby on BA , the effect of the Move to Terminal 5 on BA jobs , and the Lack of a BA Dividend in 2006. 2 . Variable Pensions Update. ABAP has received no response to our request to Mr Maynard Chairman of Pensions Trustees that he set up a Working Group to seek a solution to this long running dispute.
ABAP has said that BA pensions has failed in its Duty of Care to the Scheme beneficiaries, but the Trustees still remain to be convinced that the Variable has caused any financial difficulty or hardship. ABAP is therefore requesting Variable Pensioners to update their financial situation with the VP. Especially those ABAP members who have been “paying back” for many years. Please write as below to:
Sandra Sellers (VPO) ABAP Unit 10 Solent Industrial Estate Hedge End Southampton SO30 2FX Those Members who have recently written in response to an ABAP “minisurvey” have had their replies forwarded to the Chair.
3. APS Pensioner Trustee Election 2007. At last APS pensioners have been granted another Pensioner Trustee to represent Pensioners on the APS Trustee Board in addition to the existing Pensioner Trustee standing for re-election.
Both candidates are thoroughly recommended by ABAP. Please remember to use your TWO votes when the forms arrive. 4. ABAP AGM Monday 8th October 2007. We are planning to have a Guest Speaker again this year at the AGM We may invite Dr Ros Altmann , the well known pensions consultant, who is constantly in the press & on TV campaigning for those 125000 pensioners who have lost their entire pension when their employers became insolvent. Or we may invite an Actuary to help all of us make sense of the Valuations that are carried out at APS & NAPS. Please let us know if this is of interest. 5. Petitions Online to No 10 Downing Street There is now direct access to the Prime Minister at No 10 via the internet. Members with access to the internet may now set up, or just sign, petitions to the PM with this new online service. Point your browser at:
E-petitions are no different to the paper versions which we delivered by hand or post to No 10 over many years. The advantage is that petitioners will now be able to reach ever greater numbers than before by connecting people across the web & allowing them to sign up. Take a look, there are many issues you may wish to support. Signing is quite easy and you may support as many as you like. 6. Occupational Pensioners Alliance: Reporting. ABAP is part of a much larger Occupational Pensioners Alliance. OPA has a website to be found at:
7. NAPS Members in Employment. Remember you have just days now to submit your decision to Whitelocke House about whether you wish to pay extra to retain higher benefits.
8. ABAP Subscriptions 2007/2008. Subscription renewal for the coming ABAP year 2007/ 2008 is due as from 1July 2007.
Please complete the form and return with your cheque to
